does anyone know what kind of metal is typically used in a safe?
Reply:THICKSorry...not much help   :-)
Reply:Nearly all safes are made from nothing but plain old mild steel.  Afew years ago, a couple buddies and myself got into making a few safes, only thing different about ours were is we made them out of 1/2 on 3/8" chromium carbide overlay plate.  They were beautiful safes, and you couldn't cut them with anything but plasma, you also could not drill them.  The problem was in the price of the steel, we were paying 4-5 thousand dollars just for the steel for 1 decent sized safe---needless to say, we sold only a few, but the people who bought them still love them to this day.6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers

Reply:Safes vary greatly in both design and material, depending on age, size, purpose, cost etc.Much more detail is needed to begin to guess what you are talking about.

Reply:thanks everyone for the replies. Looks like this is from mild steel. A demo crew cut out the bottom to remove it from the floor. So I guess if they can cut it with a disc or blade, its likely "regular" steel. Attached Images
