I have been trying to identify the company who makes fasteners with the mark "THE" on the head. This has been the most frustrating internet search ever. Attached ImagesIan TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:There's a little thing called the Fastener Quality Act, that caused tons of perfect bolts to be scrapped. And there's a government publication that lists hardware trademarks and their owners.Right now I can't think of the agency that registers and compiles the data. It's all published in a book form. If you search for the FQA you may be able to find an online copy of the publication that lists trademarks and their owners. Hope it helpsLast edited by denrep; 09-02-2010 at 04:51 PM.

Reply:IIRC, Grade 2 'butter bolts' aren't marked with the manufacturer. SAE Grade 5 and Grade 8 with 'Fastener Quality Act' traceability -are- marked with manufacturer mark or name. The 'special' fasteners are also marked with manufacturer info.I -think- the "THE" is just a marking code from the BigBox stores to let the cashiers ring up the 'right' bolt size for pricing/inventory purposes. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
