I live in Orlando and have been starting to shop for a new Tig machine.None of the welding supply/ dealer shops here seem to have any demo machines to try before you buy. (not only that... they don't seem to care if they get my business or not ).Does anyone know of shops that have demo units in my geographical area ?I am going to try calling some surrounding citys like Kissimmee, Titusville, Coco,Daytona, Lakeland ect.Looking to buy a dynasty or syncrowave. (miller)I am willing to pay a little more than internet prices to support someone local......but I also expect them to value my business as their potential customer. Makes me thinksome of these places either have too much business or their corporate controllers arebean counting Idiots.Anyone have a suggestion where to go in my area ?Tim
Reply:You might call Miller or post up on Miller's site and ask this question. My LWS had the local Miller rep around on their open house day and he brought the Dynasty with him along with a couple other machines for demo. The syncro's probably a bit tougher because of it's size, but they might have a few local connmections. Wouldn't hurt to bit*h about the LWS's and their lack of help when you talk to Miller as well. While they might not have any sway at the local level, venders often have some clout at the upper levels of companies. It's in Millers interest to have the sales people help sell their product. Sales = Money for both Miller and the LWS. Big wigs often dislike sales people who cost them sales especially in this economy.http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...nities/mboard/You might also inquire at any local tech schools about what machines they use. Often tech schools are looking for guys in the trade who are interested in hiring kids PT so they can get some real world exp. while they learn. The instructor might be willing to let you have a turn at his machines while he tries to sell you on giving his kids a chance. I know the one tech school near me has a couple of Dynasty 350's they got recently. The other's running Syncro 250's..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Miller has the 'Road Show', which is a rolling advertising booth on a semi trailer that they bring around to various welding supply shops and other places where welding equipment is of interest. They have several of their machine models set up and ready for customer demo in portable welding booths. Lincoln has a similar show they put on. I've been to a few of Miller's Road Shows at the local welding shops and one of Lincoln's shows at a local union hall. Might want to contact both companies and find out when they will be coming to an area near you.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:DSW:I might try just as you said, post on miller forum.I just remembered I know a fellow pilot who is some kind of rejional rep for one of thewelding compannies but I don't remember which. Maybe he can help me when I see him next. You would think spending 3000-4000$ in one shot would get their attention ....Are they doing SO MUCH business that is doesn't ???????????I think the miller road show is in Tamps this week end. Problem it is 200 miles round trip,Would end up costing me the better part of 100$ just to test a welder for 15 minuites. They will be in Orlando in december but at a trade show for racing that I am not allowed to attend. (!)The local store said the road show had NEVER been to their store ! I'm sure they'd cometo them for 1 day when they had to be allmost in town anyway if the store would makethe request. I learned at the only local tech school but they use no inverters. (!)Will try miller forum !Thanks for the thoughts !Tim |
