I found a guy who'd sell me one for like $200. He said it's an arc, with a gas hook up in the back? How is an arc welder compared to a mig?My previous thread..http://www.weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=5430Thanks,-Joe
Reply:MIGs, TIGs, Stick machines, Submerged Arc machines, etc. are ALL electric "arc welding" processes, as opposed to gas welding with Oxy-Fuel or other non arc processes.Lots of amateurs say "arc welding" when they really are specifically referring to the SMAW process, Stick welding.
Reply:that doesn't help much lol..So is the sp 100 wat i'm looking for?
Reply:I have an sp 100. i don't use it anymore. it was  my first  mig . it's a good little - repeat - "LITTLE " machine . i use my  sp250 , and don't find a need for the little  one. but, it( the sp100 )  is portable . I sure can't carry the big one around . I'd want to try it, make sure it's in good condition , or have another welder try it for you .
Reply:sp100 is a mig machine.  Is that the answer youre looking for?   its a small 100 amp jobbyIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:You said in the other thread that it's for cars.  Which parts?  This little guy (assuming it has the gas solenoid, which might be an extra upgrade) is good for sheet metal.  That's it.  You can put some flux-cored wire in it and make reasonable welds up to 1/8" steel. So is that what you're looking for?  Only you can answer that question.

Reply:Man, that deal from Toolking is awesome, which is why they are out of stock so often.  I bought one a year ago and sold it 6 months later when a friend needed it and I was ready to afford the Passport.
Reply:I know, i keep checking back waiting for one to come in. I'm on the email list 2 lol. I'll prob end up with that.
Reply:u know wat the duty cycle was on it?
Reply:They have a 20% duty cycle at a rated output of 90A.  Duty cycle will be lower at their max output of 135A, of course.  For that class of machine, I don't think there is much difference in duty cycles.

Reply:No.  They already have a fan.  We're still talking about the Hobarts, right?  Even the Lincolns would have to have a fan.I think I've heard of one no-name little guy a while ago that didn't have a fan.  Must be a reason why I haven't heard of it since. To be honest, for what these machines are designed to weld, you shouldn't have a problem with duty cycles.  If you are going into production, you don't buy a 120V MIG.Last edited by MAC702; 06-28-2006 at 06:37 PM.

Reply:what do u think of this?http://www.toolking.com/productinfo....productid=6253
Reply:Now you're talking!  A 240V 175A machine is a very significant jump over the 120V units.  And that it the best deal going on 175A machines!  And they are currently back in stock.  They run out of these frequently, too, so if I could afford it and needed a welder and had 240V power even remotely available or possible, I'd be buying that thing tonight.

Reply:What about exhaust brackets and exhaust pipe welding? can this do it? I see one for 200 dollars but want to know if it has the power to do this.
