On that '65 Mustang we're building at Panoz for Patrick Dempsey I we ran into an issue with making a '65 door latch work with an '03 Ford lock cylinder.  The 65 design allows you to pull the key out in the locked position while the modern one makes you turn it back to the center before the key comes out.  So, when it was first connected up you could turn the key to lock the door, but as you returned the key to the center position so you could remove it the door would unlock again. This is what I did to get around the issue - a slider in the lock rod that allows the free play to return the key to center after locking or unlocking.  Works great. The wire is 1/8" stainless tig rod, and the slider tube and stops are 3/16" OD stainless brake line.  I just fused all the joints since I didn't have small enough filler for the 12 amps or so I used.
Reply:Nice, functional job, that required some thought and planning; which I respect.*****for real small tig wire, you can use .030, 023, etc.--mig wire--
