Im new to welding and i need to know some things, first of all what kind of welder would be good and simple to use on soft metals, and second of all, how do you use it, finally what are some thing to look for when shopping for a welder? some one I know suddested mig or ac/dc.thank you for your time and cooperation
Reply:your statement "soft metals" has me wondering are you wanting to weld aluminum & copper, or mild steel? The answer to that will be primary in answering the rest of your question. You can also get some good information here,http://www.hobartwelders.com/techtips.htmlAppreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:g33grant,Welcome aboard.  Start welding, get hooked!  That's how it is!Without a doubt, GMAW (MIG) is the easiest way to weld, and the fastest to learn well enough to start making usefull stuff.  There are a lot of entry-level machine out there, but I'd stick with a reputable brand that has good customer support, like Hobart, Miller, Lincoln, ESAB, Daytona MIG, etc.  The "good deal" cheap-o welders are just that - functional, but not very practical.  I started with a Millermatic 135 and have been very happy with it, but it is best suited for thinner materials, and does not have enough heat for real good aluminum work (plus the spool gun and controller about double the price of the nmachine).  Look for used equipment first - the good stuff lasts a long time.Good luck, enjoy, and be well.hankj
