Here is what I did yesterday. I run a large solid fuel boiler that burns sawdust. We use a large hydraulic system to pull the sawdust onto a chain that will take the sawdust up into the boiler. These rams are under a lot of stress and tend to cause us some trouble at times. This is one of those times. The problem we had was that a ram base started moving crushing the concrete it was encased in and cracking the steel base. I had the concrete removed as best we could and then welded up the base. We are going to use a special mix to replace the concrete which is supposed to be super strong. Here is the hole I will be working in. Not much funCracked baseNow the base welded and some extra reinforcements addedMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:After that I have another job for Monday on the sawdust system. Now one of the rams broke off. Its 1 inch plate steel the brakes. I will need to cut the old broken pieces off the scrapper and weld new pieces on. The only real bad part of this job is keeping the sawdust from catching fire while working. Reply:Judjing from the pics I'd say you need a gussett behind the cylinder also..Seems like alot of stress on one mounting point I.M.H.O.What kind of Concrete will be used for this? There is some stuff I believe called "Hydraulic Repair" Concrete out there.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Looks like it's keeping you pretty busy.. You're doing good tho. I'm with zap, that top repair could have used a kicker brace to begin with.
Reply:Wow, what are those, about 10" cylinders? Maybe around 80 tons of push, each? You need some more "meat"!I "third" the higher bracket idea. It would be better if the design used concrete simply for mass, and in compression. Thanks for posting the "big job"!zap - FWIW, Hydraulic cement, is a description for concrete that will cure with water. The name may seem misleading, but it's not relative to strength or fluid power hydraulics.Last edited by denrep; 11-24-2007 at 12:45 PM.
Reply:Thanks guys.I think you are right that a little extra would be good but that what the bosses want. The funny thing is their are 10 cylinders were only two ever give us this problem. The other 8 are all prefect as the day they were put in. This system is 10 years only now. Here's a pic of the complete setup.I will post pic's of the scrapper repair when it done.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed. |
