Does anyone know what the heat input calculation is for pulse auto hot wire tig?
Reply:Do you know the basic heat input calc?Joules/inch =  (amps x volts x 60)/travel speed inches per minute)For a pulsed weld, calculate the average arc amperage which is a function of time at peak current and the time at background current.  Depending on how your machine is setup for pulse settings, you calculate Iavg as follows.1.  Iavg = ((Ipk x tpk) + (Ibk x tbk)) / (tpk + tbk)or2.  Iavg = (Ipk x %tpk) + (Ibk x %tbk)Now, unless you have a data acquistion system to collect actual arc data from a weld, you can only estimate the average voltage of the pulsed weld, and this is done by watching the voltage meter as it fluctuates during pulsing and making a guess at the average value.  If you have data acquisition and actual Vpk and Vbk values, then calculate an average as shown above for current. So, now with Iavg and Vavg, and travel speed, calculate heat input. As for the addition of Hot Wire, I think you would calculate the watts (amps x volts) that are applied to heating the wire, and add this power input to the arc power calculated above. So in the heat input calc, amps x volts = ((Iavg x Vavg from the arc) + (I x V from the wire heating))
Reply:Thanks!
