This is to anyone that has there welding setup on a trailer. Do you let your truck insurance cover the trailer when on the road? Or do you insure it separately? Im not only concerned about a wreck, but also theft.no you cant fix it with a hot pass.BORN TO LOSE, LIVE TO WIN.
Reply:Insurance coverage varies so much between states, your question is almost impossible. Your trailer contents may be covered under homeowners insurance, but you really need to talk to an agent who knows what the hell he's doing, and isn't looking to rip you off.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:An insurance agent who won't rip you off??? Those are just guys who couldn't get into law school and weren't smart enough to sell used cars. The same guys and gals who use YOUR money to gamble with you and you have to bet yer gonna die!"All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing"
Reply:You may wish to look into getting it insured seperately. While some coverage may cover both truck and trailer, they usually would have to be hooked together. It won't do you any good if you were 50 miles away from your storage yard when the trailer gets taken. an insurance broker may be able to find you the best coverage from multiple companies for this case. Home owners may not cover if you are doing anything for money or non hobby use. Here in the Great White NorthMosquitoes can't fly at 40 below
Reply:wolfDon't be surprised if the insurance on the trailer costs more than the trailer is worth! I lease a concrete saw and am forced to insure it. It's worth $4500. My policy costs about $3000 per year!!!! I have 2 dump trucks that have 1/2 million dollar policies that don't cost that much individually! The excuse I'm given is this: The high premium is due to the "portable" nature of the saw (it is self propelled). Anything small and portable is going to be charged more as a result. I had to go through around a dozen companies before I found one that would even give a quote. If your truck policy will cover it "on the road" and your homeowners policy has it at home, it might be better to keep the hand you've been dealt. You might have to pay thru the nose if you ask for another card. I just wish I had that option.Don I hate insurance! That is untill I need it!
Reply:The insurance on my welding trailer is cheap, but it only covers trailer and anything permanently bolted to it(welder) for loss of fire, theft, etc. It does not cover it while being towed, it is then covered by the attached vehicle.
Reply:Typically you will probably have to schedule your welding equipment separately. If your truck is a business truck and insured as such then your insurer should help you with the rest of the equipment. If it is a personal truck and insured as such then your typically policy will only cover a very limited amount of professional equipment.I have had good luck by joining a trade association and some of them have preferred insurers that specialize in the specific type of insurance. I am an insurance agency owner in a past life but am very rusty on the specifics in the current times.Good luck
Reply:I am a member of the american welding society, I think I will be contacting them. I belleve they have some programs that offer discounted insurence for members.no you cant fix it with a hot pass.BORN TO LOSE, LIVE TO WIN.
Reply:If your going to be doing this for a living. Don't forget the Liability insurance. When I was in business, I carried a million dollars. when I bid on jobs with utilities, showing proof of liability was submitted with the proposal. I had all my insurance with the same commercial carrier.
