This is for a turbo BMW I am building.  I started out having a buddy weld the right-most part and it didn't look too good.  Zapster had offered to weld it but I figured the only way I was going to learn is if I tried it myself.  So, here it is.  I think it will do just fine - I had cut a few pieces apart for penetration and all looks good.Got a couple misc. joints to finish but its mostly done.
Reply:Wow man, how long did that take ya?  Looks really good from what i can see!  Nice goin!Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!
Reply:Fit/routing of the tubes looks pretty nice!  I'd turn the ampss down a little bit, the color of the welds and HAZ are indicating that you've got a bit too much in there.
Reply:Looks good so far.. I'll send ya a P/M.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:looks good there... couple standard questions that i'm surprised no one has asked yet... what were your settings/machine that you were using, and what exactly is it going on (what year and model)... i'm a huge BMW fan, so i'm interested to see what comes from this project.Later,Andy

Reply:awesome set-up you got there... can i drive? hehehehehe. i've driven a 525 or two in my time at a BMW dealership, but they were only stock... great cars for their time... what kind of numbers do you expect to get out of that super-sized turbo you got?Later,Andy

Reply:I'd have to agree with Krypto, fusing or autogenus for an SS header is not the way to go. If you have a handle on it, that's all I will say.  Is the motor fully studded and o-ringed?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Just big studs aren't going to help you from the head lifting at between 16-18psi. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Holy long runners!  I have heard of long tubes before,,,,but that takes the cake.  Should have some nice torque!  I am not at all familiar with these applications....my nose is usually in the naturally aspirated arena - where the gains are hard to come by and lots of time spent looking for a few HP here and there.  Cool stuff man...are they all equal length? And any thought given to the firing order as to where the tubes were placed next to one another?  Was just looking at a manifold on Ebay done by Jr Johnson and the manifold was going for over 7500 - but it was the best manifold design EVERY produced as some well known engine builders tested it and on a 425CFM head it flowed 99% of that flow, (typical manifolds used by raceteams today even with all the tricks very rarely get over 90%).  Only one left of its kind and the design was never released so other could maufacture it.  Has some crazy pieces on the inside (almost looked like angle iron in a cross pattern to distribute the air around inside the plenum).  Obviously Mclaren who built it had a bunch of time in developing it.  Keep us posted on the progress and results.(edit) my bad...I see what your doing now.......guess the medicine I am on for this cold is making me a little slow today.  LOL>Last edited by ski_dwn_it; 12-13-2007 at 01:53 PM.Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 -  6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH

Reply:all Ti,AL SS,CS
Reply:the back-sides of the welds on exhust tube will look the same as those done on a flat plate... as long as everything in done right, you want to see a consistant, uniform color change in the HAZ.Later,Andy
Reply:ANy pics?? Of  the inside of properly welded exhaust/manifold???hey skican you post a link to the on on ebay? would like to take a look at that 7500 dollar manifoldthanks bear
Reply:Hi there!   Looks nice that manifold and the construction of it! What kind of wastegate are you going to use? Can you give some specs of bit and pieces?
