Since I am working out of a two car garage, space is very important. I am always getting new tools and equipment, of course the end result will have to be a shop where I have more room. But, right now finances will not allow such a luxury.Everything I have is on wheels so to be moved out of the way. With more equipment it is more important to use every available inch of space.I need to build a tool stand that can accomdate a drill press, 2 ton arbor press, grinders, vice or two, 24" brake and what ever else I can get on it. If the stand can double as a tool holder while machining too, that would be great.I plan on using receiver hitch technology as much as possible, to utilize more than tool in one spot. Has anybody done or have anything like what I have described that they wouldnt mind sharing? Photos or some kind of drawings would be outstanding. Thanks in advance.s.r.
Reply:Hi Riceburner, I built this one for my grinders/polishers. You could adapt the idea for greater storage and other tools.I cut a hole in the top of my bench that allowed the post to be secured in the leg. I use the stand mostly for storage now and do most of the work with the grinder mounted in the bench. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:I think that universal mount is a great idea! I have the same problem, working out of a 2 car garage making the best of it. Ideas like that sure make it alot easier to get along. I'm going to have to copy that
Reply:Neet stand, how do you keep the stand from escaping you start pushing a grinding wheel?s.r.
Reply:I use my foot on the front leg, I do most work with the tool in the bench. If I was to do it again I'd use locking casters. I just used what I had kicking around the garage on this one.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Reply:My idea was to mount a small gang box to it. the reciever, that is.
Reply:Swells,That's a great idea...you can turn those grinders/polishers anyway you need to get the best angle on the job...I'm definately borrowing that idea....Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Glad to see you can get some use from it. Here's another pic with no tools on it.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them. |
