im kinda new to mig and i got a used clarke 150te given to me, im using it gasless for now. im having some feed problems. the roller is the right size, the tip is and the wire is .35. may be too big for this welder but it has been used with this wire and worked fine. ive tried different pressures on the roller and nothing works...heres what happens, when i start to weld, it will work fine for a while then it will stop feeding and it will slip no matter how tight i tighten it, it will eventually smash the wire. i can take pliers and pull the wire out of the tip while holding the trigger and it will pop loose like it was stuck then it will work fine for a bit. the tip is fine, could it maybe be my liner or am i maybe welding the wire to the tip, maybe too slow wire speed. has anyone else had this problem? any places to get parts? any help is appreciatedjacob
Reply:you could have a bad tip or too slow a wire feed speed. What parts are you looking for in particular? Try www.weldingdepot.comStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Unfortunately, the Clarke units leave alot in to be desired in the wire feed department. Here is a few photo of the drive system of a 180 that was in for a new gun. The part that looks like cast aluminum is plastic. Generally if you are using flux cored wire, you need a knurled roller. If the machine was used with solid wire, you could be crushing the wire trying to get it to feed with a U-groove or V-groove roller. Attached Images

Reply:Try loosening up the tension on the wire spool. Fluxcore wire, is basically a tub, so you actually want the least amount of drive roll tension as possible, or as mentioned above, you're going to crush the wire. Which, will make it difficult to feed the wire properly thru the contact tip.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice |
