So I just picked up a brand new Jackson EQC 3n1 auto darkening lens and hood. I haven't even welded with it yet, just got it out of the box and had it sitting around for a couple weeks. Today I was looking at it, and when the lens is 'OFF', there are dark blue/green spots that start to show in the lens and around the edges, then they gradually grow until almost the entire lens is covered. I know this can't be normal, but as soon as I click the 'ON' button they all go away and it looks perfectly fine. When it gets shut off again, the process starts all over again. Is the lens cracked or broken or something? I just don't see how thats possible, as it hasn't even been used or even moved around really. Thanks in advance for your help!-AaronHere's a crappy cell phone pic of what's happening. Attached ImagesLast edited by gsxtasy; 12-17-2010 at 02:25 AM.

Reply:Well thats a relief! I plan on using it a lot as soon as I pick up my welder next week!
Reply:Weird, but I wouldn't worry, unless there were spots when it was on (either in the light, or dark state).
Reply:Just like Rugar says, nothing to worry about. I've had my Nex-Gen about 7 years, used it outside at temps down to 0 degrees. It does the same thing, never missed a beat. Keep a spare set of batteries handy. They last a long time, but you never know when they will quit. The Nex-Gen does have a low battery indicator however, but on the job site, you need to be prepared for most anything."The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government." Reply:Yup agreed its 100% normal. I have a jeckson nexgen too and it does the same thing when its off. It says it right in the manual that it goes away when you turn it on.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Good to hear. ^ I didn't happen to get a manual with mine. It just looks so weird when I wasn't expecting it to happen. HTP Invertig 201Thermal Dynamics Pak 2xt Plasma
Reply:My 10 yr old jackson does it. Still works great.
Reply:mine leaked fluid for awhile and still does it haha.. now if i could just talk myself into gettin rid of the fibre metal straight hoods and gettin a new one
Reply:Always figured it was a saftey feature to remind you, before you strike an arc, to turn it on.

Reply:Mine does it after its been sitting a few days. Damn auto off has got me a few times while jigging though.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Perfectly Normal. It is caused by the layers of "glass" de-energizing when the power is shut off, either via the inactivity auto off or manually. It is stated in the Jackson manual that this occurance is completely normal.
