Anybody ever tried to silver braze copper and titanium together? I have a heat exchanger I am looking to build and was thinking of using some scrap ti I have lying around in conjunction with the copper.
Reply:I am assuming you plan on torch brazing.This is way outside my araea of expertise, but as I recall, anytime you heat Ti or a Ti alloy above 800°F, it must be shielded from the atmosphere. Since all brazing takes place above 800°F, you will have a contamination problem. If you can get by with soldering then you should be ok if you use a solder with a liquidus point below 600°F. Like I said, I am no expert.
Reply:56% silver solder melts right at about 800 doesn't it? I thought this might be a PITA.
Reply:Silver solder is a well used shop term and yes there are some silver containing solders, but 56% silver is actually a brazing alloy. |
