I recently purchased a Lincoln SP 175 and have learned a bunch from reading the posts on here. I'm still using flux cored wire for now and am getting close to the end of my first spool of wire. I'm having some problems with the wire feeding right now. I've tried loosening the spool to the point of it uncoiling and i;ve tightened the feed tension thing down quite a bit. The wire comming on the inside of the spool (smaller diameter) seems to be twisted and coiled and i guess its much harder to force through the liner. Any suggestions on how I can use the last part of the roll?I'm using 0.035" wire, is this too large for the stock SP-175 rollers?
Reply:How big a spool was it? 2lb or 10??You're in kind of a pinch when you start cranking down the tension to solve wire feed issues with flux core. Too loose and the feed roll slips, but too tight and you start egging the flux core which aggravates the feed issues you had to start with. .035 isn't too big for the 175, in fact they love it operation wise. Here's a guess and something to try. It's possible that if this is your first spool that there was some spittin, sputtering and bad starts involved. Those tend to burn little spots and burrs on the inside of the tip binding the wire slightly till it heats a little then it gets worse. Cools down and seems fine. Tips are cheap, try a new tip."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:You might check the liner for resistance.
Reply:If the wire seems to be twisted and coiled, see if it didn't get overlaped. If this happened it might seem like it catches itself as it unwinds and would be more noticable towards the end of spool. |
