Here is a manually operated opposed blade damper that I have been building. The housing is made from 10 GA formed channels, as are the blades. 3/4" CRS shafts and flange bearings are used. Linkages are made from flatbar and shaft collars. Nearly complete except for plug welding blades to shaft and linkage. Reply:Thanks guys...I really enjoy building these. Made one awhile back that was 5'X7'all from Stainless. High heat application with mechanical side seals and insulated glands on all the shaft ends...real elaborate. Unfortunately That was before I became a shutterbug so I don't have any pics, but it was a real fun job

Reply:Very nice! Do want to come over to my place of employment? The contractor that they have make our dampers sucks! They work ok for about a month then you need a hammer to move them. Again very nice work.
Reply:The application really depends on how they wear. On a coal fired boiler, the entrained coal really tends to erode the tips of the blades, which isn't really a problem at a medium to high load. It's at very low loads where the effect is noticable, because some dampers have a preset leakage of 5 or 10%, which combined with eroded blades will give more air than you need when they are shut at minimum loads.
