I am looking into buying a Mig welder.What amperage should I need to weld 1/4" steel that will probably be the maximum thikness for me.Will the welder below do that thikness?http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44567
Reply:Theres a post ... well quite a few posts about this welder,  just take a stroll down this forum, and youll see this one, one 2 posts down, then another one, then another one, everyone asks about this tig welder, Including me The summary is that the welder is now made in china? and its much crappier.
Reply:Bypass this machine and get a well known brand like a Lincoln or HTP unit.  You will be more satisfied in the long haul with customer service and tech help if you need it.  Harbor Freight units are cheap and they are made just like that cheap.  You get what you pay for which turns out to be not very much.  Check out www.usaweld.com, that is the HTP web site which has a wide variety of units with a 90day return policy for any reason you do not like the unit you purchased.  Also there customer service and shipping response is top notch.  You will be getting more unit for your dollar even though they are more than Harbor Freight units but the quality is there.  Good luck.......A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:get a miller hobart lincoln esab or maybe a htp do not get nething else there all hard to find parts for and could be junk. i just dont want to get into detail gets kinda tiring everyday saying it over and over again. but u might want a 220 cause you will get addicted
