What's new in terms of product and machines etc...For 2011 from the major manufacturers? Or is it to early to tell.I know last year we had Fuel Injection with Miller.Seemed like a big step.I'm eyeballing a Trialblazer to use as a Generator and for structural stuff when it might arise. So, if you have links or info from the major players or are excited about trying something "new" out in 2011 let's have it.In 2011 I am going to shoot for a I'm going to try and get a Miller 211 Mig Welder. Finally spring for a Hypertherm 45.And would like to pick up a brand spankin new engine drive 305g or Trailblazer.1981 Lincoln SA 200Miller Trailblazer 302gMiller 211 Mig Welder w/ AutosetI'm learning to stick metal together
Reply:This year I'm getting a Dynasty 200DX.I'm hoping to get a decent horizontal band saw.And if I can score the contract that I'm working on, a garage, or at least the pad & roof.  Welding under a tent in the winter is "the suck".. I'm thinking a project car too.  Maybe a jeep or an old Chevy Blazer.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.

Reply:For myself 2011 will not be a year of new technology but in fact a year of old technology. This will be the year that another old Lincoln SA200 Shorthood is resurected from the scrap heap. Reply:Hey guys,Personally, I am dying to see a USA manufacturer make a REALLY REASONABLY PRICED welding positioner. Any company who could get a $500 or less unit(50# capacity) on the market, could really do well. He11, I'd even get an import if it was a decent made one. I just won't pay $600+ for a heavily used one. And, at my age guys, yes, I am enroute to dying before one may come to fruition. I'm in progress of making one off 'n on between work projects.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I'm real close to purchasing a Millermatic 252 and XR-30A push pull gun (still undecided between it and the Spoolmatic). My TA-185 needs a dedicated cooler, and I'm looking at trying the WeldTec C2.5-1G.  This is probably a couple months out.Hope to be renting a bigger shop sometime after the first of June, but before the end of the year.  I'm really outgrowing what I'm in, and it is limiting my productivity.Bigger bending brake hopefully will come at the same time as the shop.  I really need it now, but there is no way of getting it in the shop I'm in.As far as what I'd like to see?  I like the idea of the wireless TIG footpedal, but would want one made by SSC (and have the same low profile design as their wired pedals), and cost a little less.  I have a feeling that once some competitors get one on the market, and the newness wears off, the price will go down a little bit.  What I'd really like to see is an entirely wireless/hoseless TIG torch (that is still no bigger than a wp-20).  Not entirely sure that is going to exist in my lifetime, though.Who is John Galt?

Reply:I am trying to talk my bosses into getting a 100 ton punch to replace a very well used 55 ton machine. For my side work I am thinking about a electric xmt 304 or a 350 miller to use around the shop help save fuel but I can also buy alot of fuel for $3500 so thats still up in the air. Or a Bigger gas air compressor 13 horse kohler or honda.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Reply:I am trying to resist buying any new tools.   Anybody belong to a 12 step program for tool addicts?  We should probably all join.I only bought one significant tool in 2010, a Dynabrade long neck grinder.  My old tool worked OK, but a neighbor complained about the noise.I would like an xmt 350 cc/cv, but have neither the money nor the need.  My metalurgist likes the Lincoln C300, like an xmt with a wire feed built in, very compact, so that would be the cat's meow, but way too much money for my budget.Happy new year to all!RichardSculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge

I bought a LF-72 feeder to work with my Esab. The Esab for steel, and the Lincoln for aluminum. (snip)Just so you know, the C-300 it's not like a XMT, because it's way more advanced. Just e-mail Miller, and ask them.Sad note though, had to sell the 260 to make it happen. It really is a great unit in it's own right.  I just like the 350 MPI a bit better in the short-arc. Also being a new old stock unit, the feeder and yellow inverter probably cost me less then a Powermig 216
Reply:Originally Posted by Matt_MaguireI like your choice in mig torches there BrandX,Re; C300 vs XMT, I think with all the bling added for the miller it would just be missing rapid arc and pulse on pulse. Not a big deal for semi-auto. I looked at the C300 when they came out and thought "that's neat", but there is no "shallow end of the pool" for the small shop and still no STT, "who's gonna buy it"... But I'm not running Lincoln. On selling the 260, I hope it works out for you. I still have a T/A fabricator 250 that mostly just gets dusted off, but the piece of mind with having a simple tap/tap machine is important to me.Change to my wish list right now. Has anyone used the Weldcraft Legacy style torch? I think they are stock on the Miller Diversion. Anyway I was thinking of adding one to the Squarewave so on that odd small job I wouldn't be upside down pedalling with by butt cheek or between the knees. This one has wheel amptrol and can have gas valve for srcatch with 300MP if I need it. Pic below, thanks in advance;Matt
Reply:Just a lot of Argon and filler at this rate.  Also, re-doing the control wiring on my Clausing lathe.
Reply:I think 2011's the year I'll be looking for an ironworker, maybe towards the fall.  Something between 35 and 50 T.  Sometime next winter I'd like to either find or build a welding bed for the truck, something with a real workbench on the back as opposed to a fold-down tailgate, and with torch bottles closer to ground level, in a compartment or not.  Maybe I'll sell the dump bed and fund it from that $$.
Reply:Hey tbone I talked with our boss again and he is leaning towards getting a new 100 ton edward iron worker. So we are going to be selling our 55 ton machine I believe it is a 2001 machine probably around the $2500 to $3500 range. Reply:Probably a plasma cutter, not Chi-Com, and most emphatically not from the two clowns that own/run Everlast or Longetivity
Reply:Crazy as it sounds, my only planned purchase is a Harbor Freight 80amp inverter stick machine.  I've been looking for a portable welder to use with my 3500w generator, and this one seems to fit the bill the best.  Less than 9lbs, DC-/+, and can typically be bought new for around $100 new (with a 2 year warranty).  Reviews on this site are pretty good, and should run 1/16 and 3/32 rods pretty well.
