Could'nt leave everyone hanging as to type..Here is the roller all done with the welding part..This is what we are left with..Here's how we do this so we keep the chatter and deflection to a minimum..After re-centering the roller you move the steady rest to the middle of the roller and start at the chuck end..More stable that way over using the live center..This is the tool as it comes..right..After I ground it..left..Now we run the machine as slow as it goes backwards and put the tool in upside down..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Now simply start "digging"..I thought this was a cool pick from underneeth as we dig..Ahhhhhh groove done..I'm getting there..When I reach the middle I'll take the roller out and flip it end for end and repeat the process..Turning things like this backwards with the steady rest in the middle really works 10 times better than the standard way of turning..You're "trying" to push the roller into the rest and the rest don't give like it would if you were turning the standard way..If you notice the rest is not even "closed" during this operation..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:very nicely done zap... i'm still amazed at how a man can take a piece of metal and make it submit to his will. especially after welding... one would never know that the roller in progress was ever damaged. nice work as usual.i know its for a shingle company, but what is it for exactly and what caused the damage in the first place? i know the grooves were at different depths when you got a hold of it, so what caused them to be different?Later,Andy

Reply:I would have never thought to flip the tool and rotation to keep the force against the bedways. i hope i remember that if i ever need to do a large piece like that.
