Which auto darkening shield is the best on the market in your opinons? I had a cheap one for a few years that was great until it crapped out. Now I have a Miller which total sucks. No matter were I set the shade control, its plain and simply to dark. Ive gone back to my regular manual shield so I can see what Im doing. Input please! Bob L
Reply:You are going to get every answer imaginable. I use a Speedglas 9002x. Its 9-12 variable shadeUA Local 598
Reply:I used to have a cheapo as well. Now I'm using the Lincoln Electric Viking. 9-13 variable w/grind mode. Fairly priced as well. Heres a link to where I bought mine:http://www.welders-direct.com/mercha...tegory_Code=WH"SOUTHPAW" A wise person learns from another persons mistakes;A smart person learns from their own mistakes; But, a stupid person.............never learns.
Reply:Jackson BOSS in the HSL100 Hood. I Love it. Weld, Cut, Grind. Big Viewing Area. Good Stuff.TJ
Reply:I have the Jackson Boss in the fibre metal hood. B-day present from my fiance. I would not have spent the money on an AD hood the first time but you can bet I will if this one ever goes out!
Reply:Optrel200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:What miller? i have had a performance series for 2 years with no problems. buddy has a nextgen and that thing is sweet and also the speedglas are great too. I'd also say the digital elite is good too. shouldn't have problems with any of them.
Reply:Jackson has great new head gear. they offer high dollar AD lenase and cheaper AD lense. I bought Jackson for the headgear. I had the BOSS lense, it broke, and replaced with a Nexgen EQC lense which works flawlessly so far.I'm not recommending jackson lense over miller/optrel/whatever, just telling you i like jackson headgear (i do like the jackson headgear better then miller and optrel though)
Reply:The $50 Harbor Freight one adjusts quite well based on my use of it.

Reply:Thanks guys for your energy. I went and checked out the Jackson New/Gen with the HSL-100 and that will do. I mean that thing is cool. I cant believe the amount of viewing area and the price is fair. Once again thanks for your input. Later, I got to go shopping. Bob L
Reply:I like the Jackson hoods and lenses. The new 370 headgear is quite nice, definately an improvement over previous Jackson headgears. They're including the 370 headgear on new hoods now. When I got my 370's for my old hoods, it was only available seperately. I have a few HSL100's, oldest dating back to about '92. They've been good, no issues. I bought a new Halo-X hood about a year ago and I like it alot. Any new Jackson hoods I buy will be the Halo-X. It is lighter and little more flexible than the HSL100. I like it.I have two EQC Pro Variable lenses and both have been excellent and reliable. I like them so much and they keep on working so I haven't tried the new NexGen or Boss lenses yet. When I find something that works great, I usually stay with it until it breaks. I have about 7 years on one and 2-1/2 years on the other, one on the truck and one in the shop.I also have a 3N1 Executive lens and it has been fine but I don't use it much. It is a little too light for outdoor work on sunny days without also wearing sunglasses under. It is fine for indoor or cloudy day outdoor work.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:it all depends on what/how long you are welding i love my speed glass 9100x it has the most comfortable head gear ive ever worn and the lens is tops the sensitivity is great with the 3 sensors ive used them all and i still think the speedglass is the bestAfter the arc has died the weld remains
Reply:Speedglas 9100xx is what I use for most welding. Well worth the $$$ in my opinion. For certain tasks I will use a Jackson hsl100 with gold #11 filter. I like that helmet alot too.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8
