These were built for one of my customers skid steer and had to be super tough as they are seriously abused on a daily basis. The plate is 3/4" and had 1/8" of scale on one side and pits on the other. That's why the cutting is so rough. Welded with 7024 every where possible and the rest with 7018. No time for cleaning as they were sitting there waiting before I was done with it. Reply:Maybe that's what I should do. Our guys trash a set fork attachments in about 6 months.
Reply:That piece across the bottom makes all the difference. The factory set he had was made out of 1/4" and was always cracking somewhere new. I rebuilt and reinforced that set and then he had me build these. I used half for the brackets and believe the back and the piece across the bottom are 3/4, but may have been 7/8. It was a rush job, but he is a great customer. I get 100% of his work, he never complains about price, and always pays cash. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. Reply:That is one heavy duty bobtach!  The original is wimpy plate ant the forks can slop all around.  With them welded, they will hold up much longer not to mention the 3/4" plate.Great job!7024 looks good, did you run it on AC or DC?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Just an FYI the forks MUST be retested and certified or he will come looking for you with a $7000 fine from OSHA....yes I know there are probably other things he would get hit for first......and you are also the manufacture of that attachement and can be held liable for tons of stuff......I know that your on the line for you work every day...... just wanted to make sure everyone who reads that will know what they are getting into.Mike
Reply:We got fined by the state over a lift setup on a winch because it wasn't tested to 10,000 lbs. They tossed it when I asked how we were supposed to test a one ton to 10,000 lbs without destroying the truck. We got rid of it anyway. The fellow who wrote the ticket no longer has a ticket book, and was promoted to a rocking chair. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:Right now the cars are going to China. The skid steer is used for loading engine blocks and transmissions to go to a local buyer. Another way the Chinese are killing us is on environmental issues. Local is no tires or gas tanks. The Chinese take it all. In fact the engine and trans come out, top is rolled open and they get packed with tires and anything else that will fit in them. I've spoken with several OSHA reps down here and they all told me their hands are full with all the construction and demolition going on.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. Reply:Down there you are sending your cars to China? Up here everything goes into the frag plant. Prices are crazy wild. i scrapped a load of forklifts with tires, counterweights, and all. I got 11.5 cents per pound. 5 foot P&S is over $350 a tonJoewww.CummingsHauling.com

Reply:Nice Jolly. There is quite a market for used forks among tractor owners now. They are picking up forks and building them to fit front end loaders. DanMy instructor said someone will catch on fire during class...He wasn't joking!!
