Rubber Torsion Axles

Do you mount your trailer bed directly to the axle? i read that the suspension is built into the axle which eliminates the need for leaf springs. seems to me that the bed would drag the ground if welded to the axle. How low do these trailers sit to the ground one they have wheels on them?

Reply:When I made my trailer I got some welding brackets so I could mount them to the trailer you dont want to weld on the axle it self because it would melt the rubber inside the axle.Millermatic 211 with 150 spool gunDynasty 350 Hypertherm powermax 30XP

Reply:I've designed, built and repaired trailers with torsion axles.One big thing---in any given torsion axle size--the manufacturer normally offers choice of  of swing arm angles---to allow for adjustments in final frame ride height, with selected tire diameter, amount of load. This is something, you need to study and layout, prior to ordering a torsion axle.Blackbird

Reply:Get the torsion axles, they work well and are easy to deal with.  The ride is also nice!One other good point if you have a tandem axle trailer with leaf springs and you get a flat the other tire on that side will not ride correctly.  If you have torsions the second tire is independent and is not effected.  Now the obvious problem would be weight ratings.  But we have an emergence communications trailer that has tandem axles just for this reason.Me!
