TIG HF spark but no power

Today, I was trying to do some TIG welding, but I got frustrated and decided to stop and ask for help.  My welder is a Synchrowave 200, not a lot of hours on it.  I was mostly welding silicon bronze, but I did weld some steel as well, which for some reason seemed to work better.At first, I heard the HF running, but did not detect the HF arc.  So I adjusted the spark gaps, which I had never done.  It seemed pretty straightforward, 0.008 gap, I put in the feeler gauge, pushed the one "button" to contact the gauge, and then tightened the bolt.  I did the same to the other gap.Then my problem was not the HF arc, but converting the arc to a power arc.  That is, the buzz HF arc was there, but it would buzz for several seconds, and then sometimes convert to welding power, but sometimes not.   I want to say that I have seen this before, but it did not take as long to come to welding power.I tested the welder in stick mode, it seemed to weld normally.  I ran a copper strap from the ground clamp to the work, that did not seem to help much.  I changed from a pure tungsten to an unknown tungsten, might have helped a little.   I got out my ohmmeter, set it to buzz, and wiggled the ends of the cables, but no evidence of intermittent connections.   All in all, it is just not making sense to me.Thanks in advance.RichardSculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge
