I've been playing around with a lincoln tombstone arc welder for a few little things.i want build/modify some barbecues,some small tractor implements,etc decided to get the mig i originally wanted, got one for 500$ shipped on ebay.-auto hood 40$, seems to work good for arc welding. haven't been flashed, dont have anything to compare it to other then regular masks which i did not care for-got a 4.5" angle grinder and cut off blade. 15$-ordered the 14" 2hp chop saw from harbor freight. figuring ill be doing some 45% cuts on round or steel tubing. maybe some 1 inch solid 79$-5 speed bench press & 4" vice 60$- cheap work bench 25$, going to weld a sheet metal to to.- assortment of clamps, including magnetic - seems if the magnet was far enough away it worked alright, lol- what other cheap-ish tools am i missing ? i currently just have 1 220 outlet in my garage, i was planing on getting a 60gal air compressor but that runs 220 as well. could i just get a outlet splitter ? also want to save up for a plasma cutter, this would be the only time 2 units would run at the same time. any ideas on how long i have to be cutting before the compressor would come back on and if it matters ? called a local place today who fabricate concrete forms,industrial building exhaust, mostly industrial products. left a message "hey just curious if you sell sheet metal to general public, have any small scap pieces. just starting to weld and looking for material" got a call back within a few minutes, very nice guy. said to come down as he usually gives the stuff away. went down there and its a father and son team in a huge building due to slow economy.they were working on something. running metal through some huge roller machine, but seemed to drop everything to bs with me and give me some free sheet metal scraps. even cut them up in pieces for me. so i've now got about 100lbs of 1/8 sheet metal.looked like they had a large cnc machine set up, along with a lot of other industrial machines. i saw their website before i went down and noticed it was pretty hurt up, but had a lot of pictures and text information so i offered to re-do their entire website make it look better/more user friendly. trying to get a little bartering going on here. with their help it seems like the possibility are almost endless as i was on the way out one showed me they use autocad creator, gotta get a hold of that ....lolLast edited by SEAR; 01-18-2011 at 03:50 PM.

Reply:Thanks ! , any input on more tools ? or using 1 220v outlet to power 2 machines ? i haven't found much except for european surge protectors ;( heres a pic of the metal sheer they had, so jealous ... lol

Reply:thanks !, i just checked the panel in the garage and main is 2 100 amp breakers and the welder is on 2 50 amp. |
