Reply:I've found 5P cuts harder and is a lot harder to remove flux from.I'm a 5P+ man.  I use it for almost everything that I stick weld.  I like the easy clean up of the flux and I adore the way the puddle seems more plastic and controllable than that of the red rod.Purely as a personal observation: the red rodders seem to usually be shop or union weldors that have someone clean and prep their welds.  And the grey rodders are the ones who do it all and really appreciate the easy clean up aspect of the grey rod.life is good
Reply:Harv,  I have never used the gray rod personally.  I have used 6011 and 5P a lot though.  How does the 5P+ compare to the 6011?  I guess my question is it more like the 5P or the 6011?  I have never bothered to buy 5P+ and right now im dwindling down my rod reserves need to buy more...would be interested.  ThanksCHRIS
Reply:I think the 5p+ act more like 6011s.reg.6010 has a more  forceful arc.I like the 5p+.when making a root pass on pipe.easier for me to control. just
Reply:Yeah,  When I was first learning to test for my certs I mostly welded the 6011 and the 6010 red.  I used a few grays, but it wasnt much and I was in the learning stage so I had a hard enough time really telling the differnce in arc characteristics between the two let alone the differnce between red and gray.  Since the learning stage I mostly worked with red rod, but some with 6011.  I found that red is more picky but I find it easier to get a good open root pass.  Its just been my personal preference to run red and I would be interested in trying the gray   thanxCHRIS
