More chucks to re-do..But these were sent to another shop at one time or another with no welding capabilities because the replacement "Lip" was bolted on rather than welded..The owner wants new rings welded on this time..Chucks..Worn out..See the line where the ring ends?Plates I'll use for the rings..We'll get to them in a bit..Had to do some grinding to get the Allen's out..All unbolted and ready for "Reverse Heat Shrink"..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:After the ring is heated it should just fall off..This side did..This side don't wanna hear it..Even after a beating..So we resort to plan "B"Done and ready for the ring.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Sorry about pic #1 in the last post..Wrong pic..(Someone slap me)Back to the plates..They were the inside left overs from a plate..Flame cut..The cut would end up showing up if I had just bored it for the ring without welding it up first..So grind both sides (1"Thick)..Filled..After a trip thru the Blanchard grinder its make the ring time..Here is where the flame cut was and also how deep the penetration was..One ring ready...010 shrink fit..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:OK now raise the ring off the table and apply heat..Ya Ya Ya I know you seen it already..Drop the chuck on..Back side weld area..Back side weld..Front weld area..One more time.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Front welded to and frow..I still have to weld up and re-machine the whole chuck face where the tube rides on yet..That will have to wait..I have a broken journal thats needed A.S.A.P. that I'll start tomorrow so the customer can have his roller back Monday..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Man, I have read your threads for about a year. All I can say is dang!!! I what to be able to weld like Zap!!!! DanMy instructor said someone will catch on fire during class...He wasn't joking!!
Reply:Here you go - SLAP! Cool thread Zap - I think you just like to play with fire! "In this pic, we have to heat the ring... and set a few coffe cups on fire for fun... to make it expand". Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG
Reply:Zap, I just got the connection between you being a drummer and the sense of rythym in your work. It's funny what people think is good. I accepted a compilment today on some hard face that I was running free hand. I was making parallel passes about 8" long and 1/4" apart (Plus or minus 1/4") It was suggested that I have a real steady hand. I do, but what I had done was crap for parallelism. It was just wear surface, and I was trying to get it done without breathing.
Reply:Zap,I love reading your threads because the processes you use are so much different from what I am doing. I don't have any machining experience and I always like to see how things are made. Thanks for the great posts. Very educational for us youngsters.CheersJosh
