I was just given a Trailblazer 250 that has about 3000 hours on it. It hasn't been cranked in a while and I was just wondering how much time/money I should put into it. I want to use it as a TIG power source so I can start messing around with aluminum and stainless and possibly later get a wire feeder. How much life do these welders usually have? If I find that the engine is crappy and could determine the rest of the welder is in good shape, could the transformer be fed by 220V? The portability of the welder is not as important right now as it is to have a power source to start learning. Anybody with any knowledge of this machine, please share. Thanks!
Reply:Most small engines can have lots of running time under there belts, most important thing is good fuel and very good oil. Personally I would drain the oil, put some mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 in the crankcase, remove the spark plugs and put a a squirt ot 2 down in each hole, then crank it over by hand a few times with the plugs still out. This should help if there was any bits of rust in the bores from it being left, and if it has any life left in it, will help prolong it as long as possible.Put the plugs back in after you are done with that stuff, and get her going! See if it works, and if something doesn't go from there, but it still might be fully functional as is.

Reply:I think he was making a joke, that he would take it off your hands, as in its a good machine, and he wants it for himself. |
