Some oddball pipe pics.....

I install irrigation meters for the state of Georgia, and here are a few pics of some of the stuff.  Most times I have to go out cut out an old half rusted out  section of pipe and add a new straight piece in.  Lots of time its gets interesting  considering on top of the rust alot of the pipe is only 12ga wall and/or galvanized on top of it.  None of this has to meet any code.  Only rule is it has to be better than what's already there, and NO LEAKS!Here is what i have to work with.  I have to cut out the center section where the other outlets are, and put in a new piece.Old pipe removed.This is the thickness of what I cut out.New piece fitted in place.How you like the reducer they had.  Piece of 8" with slits cut in it, and beat down around the 6" with a hammer.  I hate using some of the existing stuff, but we can't change anything except what's required to install the meter.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Pipe installed with meter in place.Then I had to weld up a short section of pipe to replace a check valve on another pivot so I posted the pics.....I have a couple next week to put in that are rather interesting.  They are all sch40 pipe so I can actually get to do some solid welding on them.  I'll post pics  when I go.  Have a good one.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I've seen 'custom fabricated' reducers like the one in your photo, on some demo pieces at welding school.  Yours is a little rougher than those I've encountered before, but I think the principle is sound, even if the welds aren't.
