Small project for Boy Scout Campouts

My neighbor is a veteran Scout leader for the last 30 something years. Now whoever said Moms cant be troop leaders were wrong because she hangs with the best of the men!!! Its pretty bad when its storming and the boys go to her to ask the what if questions about the storms.  And let me tell ya when its 30 degrees she is the first to say WOW this is a great weekend to camp. Anyways she ask if I would cut a barrel and weld it back to make a sort of a fire ring/cooking ring. Some of the places they camp restrict fires to a ring off the ground. This started out  as a barrel slightly smaller then a 55 gallon. I cut the barrel at the two center most rings then slid the top down inside of the bottom. It really wasnt a big deal but the bottom was rotted out which called for a new bottom. Well thats ok cause now I get to use the plasma to trim it to size after I welded it. These arnt the prettiest welds but I think they should hold. The top weld was a pain in the rear! The top ring is much thinker then the side wall. To make matters worse the sidewall was by no means tight to the other layer. I still have to grind the bottom edge and make a cut with the metabo around the inner top edge and then tack the fresh edge to keep everyone from getting cut. She still has to tell me what kind of pipe she wants welded to the side for the legs to screw into.In the end this will be about 18" to 30" off the ground. This way the kids dont have to lean over the fire. No grate is needed since they cook all there food in foil right in the coals. Now maybe I am all wrong but this is for Scouts and I wasnt about to take any money for what I do for her.
