Reply:That looks interesting. When you call it a stump bucket, is it a bit like a tree spade or scoop for removing them from the ground?
Reply:5 at a time is taking forever Attached Images
Reply:Yep.  It can be used for stump removal, tree planting and ditch digging.  When I get the grapple on it, I will be able to carry the stumps to the burn pile. Attached Images
Reply:almost done Attached Images

Reply:That took awhile.Well, there it is.  I still need to put a grapple on it, which I started fabricating Sunday night.  I will put some pics of that up when it's done. The small 5" tree popped out with a single scoop.  The big tree is about 11" diameter and I had to fight that one a little. The trench is for a phone line and is about 2' deep and 40' long.  It probably took 10-15 minutes to dig.Marcus
Reply:Impressive!  That turned out great, but i would hate to know what all that metal cost you.  I need one of those around on our farm.
Reply:It's proven sturdy enough already..Great job!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks Zap.Can you comment on the pictures in post 11?When I welded the other side, these welds turned a rainbow color and didn't return to a silver color after it cooled.  Did I weaken the joint? Thanks,Marcus
Reply:great job, what type and size rod how many amps and how thick is the metalthanks
Reply:Thanks Ed.The metal is all 1/2" A-36 mild steel. The rod was 7018AC, 1/8"The Lincoln Electric AC225 welder was set to 175.I choose 175 over 150 because I was getting a deeper puddle and it felt "right".
Reply:The color change you noticed has to do with how hot the bead was when air was able to react with the metal surface.  Maybe you removed the slag sooner than on previous welds.  Or maybe the base metal was pre-heated from previous welds, and so the later welds took longer to cool.So far as I know, that color change shouldn't affect the weld soundness.  Mild steel isn't like stainless or titanium in that regard.-Dave Originally Posted by marcuscarrThanks Zap.Can you comment on the pictures in post 11?When I welded the other side, these welds turned a rainbow color and didn't return to a silver color after it cooled.  Did I weaken the joint? Thanks,Marcus
Reply:Looks pretty good. That would have been almost a whole roll of film.. back in the days when people used film. The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.
Reply:Good looking bucket. Don't worry about the rainbow colors. As previously stated it's just how soon the air got to the metal. Mild steel is not heat treatable so no problem. 7018 deposits are not heat treatable either. That tractor looks like a Kubota but I couldn't see a name. What size is it? I was planning on bulding something along that line to skin off a couple of lawns that have built up over the years. Bermuda grass is too tough to cut with a full size bucket. The tractor just spins and digs holes. Wondering if I have enough tractor to do this.
Reply:The tractor is a Kioti DK35SE. With the normal bucket, weighted tires and the box blade it weighs in at 6500#Prying up on the large tree was the first time I have ever lifted the back tires of this tractor. If you need to pull up lawn, I would recommend something like a box blade.  This would be difficult to control in that scenario and the bucket would load up fast.
Reply:Just what I was afraid of, I don't have enough tractor. I was just trying to dream up a way to get out of pulling a rototiller over it all and then leveling up.
Reply:Nice work Marcus. You can be proud of that.Nice job on it, now you can come over and dig my footers for a new garage It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Excellent proof of what you can do with a tombstone in the right hands.Looks like it will out last the tractor. The blue shows you had it hot enough on the other side.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I could have used that device this weekend when I was clearing some fallen trees.Instead we used the Cummins and it got them after a few pulls!Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor
Reply:Wow nice work, I like when the flux peels up like that.I absolutley love stick welding, its a shame I dont do more of it anymore.-Mike
Reply:Nice example of what can be done with an ac225...and, a very nice job it is.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:the foto of the hacksaw is deeply disturbing-hope it was just used to cut the metal band..lol
Reply:Lol, yeah, the hacksaw was only used to weaken the metal band.  Then I popped it with a crowbar.I am going to weld a 3/4x6x18 inch piece of T-1 to the front and grind it to a serrated edge.  That will act as a replaceable toothbar.Marcus
