I found the material I wanted for my Tig Torch Hose Covers. High Strength, abrasion resistant braided nylon. I think it is the same covering used on slings but not sure . I don't want to seem like a hawk but I had to buy a bunch to get what I wanted so if anyone would like some, drop me an email or PM. Reply:Always thought Nomex would be good for that...Me!
Reply:Isn't polypropylene pretty sensitive to heat?
Reply:Thats not a bad idea. I use the same stuff for holding the hoses on my rebreather together but had not thought of this. Heat may be an issue though hmmm....  I get mine as dive harness webbing from a dive supplier I deal with. Harness or tack shops may sell it also. I get seat belt webbing from those places.
Reply:well, it wont catch fire when using  a lighter to melt the ends to prevent fraying.and I dont plan to use them to catch slag from the cutting torch so i should be ok.and at 12 bucks a pop i cant go wrong.insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it
Reply:You can get covers in diffrent colors from your local welding supply store..They have a zipper the whole length of it so getting the hoses inside is a breezzzzzzzzzzzzze.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:There was also a member making/selling such items here as well.
Reply:Hey Chenry I'm sorry if I am being nosey and if you dont mind what did the cover you bought cost per foot? About that is. I checked today at a local hyd. supply and they want 2 bucks a foot for the same thing(1.5"). What I found online was quite expensive. So in my travels today I stoped by hertz and looked for water pump disgharge hose (the canvas kind) but it was 2". Before leaving I found an abrasion resistant lifting sling just the right diameter. Its 25 feet long cut and streached out costing me like 25 bucks. I started looking after seeing this thread and seeing that I have droped a few small pieces of semi hot steel on the plasma lead, ever so slightly melting the surface. I know what I have now is near the same as yours and at worst it may melt, but at least its not the lead itself. It makes for a nice look as well and I have to other welders I would like to outfit also.Sorry for the long post and Thanks for the pics.Note to self.......The jacket in the avatar pic is Not for welding....EVER
