What is the best way to cut and weld  end caps on square and or round tubing and pipe.

Reply:I looked locally for plastic caps and could not find them. I searched the net and found a few places but with shipping charges it was not worth it.I just cut a piece of flat stock to cover the hole and weld it in place.i like  Thats Hot idea.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:Or make life easy for yourself and purchase a set of end caps? bevel the end of the pipe and set it up like a pressure weld.

Reply:Cut a piece of flat stock so it is just a bit smaller than the end of the tubing, tack in place and weld it vertical down, rotating as u go, if its just for looks.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:oh the fun you can have.....anytime i attempt any of the stuff in franklands book it reaffirms my respect for the old time pipefitters...second foto shows in detail how to really phoque it up....then you get to fix it..once you've heatandbeat the leaves in too far you cant just get them back out to make it all round and smooth..... Reply:Yup, steam and old skool pipe fitters had it going on.  I wondered how they did it back in the day and now I see.  Lots of skill went into that stuff  along with the knowledge and expertise.  Thanks for the info.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:lol again, purchasing nicely machined end caps which every local pipe fitting store has or can order made for pipe would have looked much cleaner, better fitup, less work, and much much easier to weld.
