welding Inconel...

well as a the topic states, has anyone here ever welded Inconel? the reason is i'm in the final semister of welding school. i'm welding stainless steel pipes and i'm not having a problem; it's not as bad as i thought. so friend of mine graduated last semister while he did some small jobs welding stainless. then came across this company that welds Inconel locally. this company only hires twice a year, yet he tested, passed and now he is hired. i receieved this call from him earlier today asking me if i would consider coming down on august to test, which will be the 2nd time they will start hiring again this year.so please any advice on what i need to do from preping, welding, gas sheild, etc. please do help. he stated i shouldn't have a problem but never the less i like to be prepare. he did tell me one thing tho, since i practice welding 2" Sch 120 pipe i should not have a problem due to how i understood the process of tig'in it and passing a weld bend. so again please any help will duely be appericated.remo.it's trust and character I need around me. Reply:Inconel is not that much different than stainless. If you are proficient with stainless you should have no problem with it. Shielding gas is Argon just like stainless. I have taken many tube tests on inconel, and you set it up and run it the same as stainless. Be sure to purge, and remember it is a little more runny than stainless.

Reply:It also welds at a lower amperage than stainless. Keep it cool.UA Local 598

Reply:Welds real similiar to stainless steel. I disagree about less heat though.
Reply:Also, sometimes the Haynes alloys (Hastalloy) are called Inconel.  C276 is the most common culprit for this naming SNAFU.  Inconel is really a generic term anymore for the ASME P Number 43,44, and 45 materials.
