Reply:Cool use of a recycle. You couldn't do that with a modern fridge. Any idea how hot it gets? I'm just wondering if the bulb always on would create to much heat. They kick out a lot of heat.
Reply:Fridges have been used as rod ovens for many decades. The question begs: How much does that heat light cost to operate 24\7? Probably more than the fridge cost to build?
Reply:could get a thermostat out of an old oven ..
Reply:Where are you going to put the "Oven" on the truck?Nice set up.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Did you bore 2 holes 1&1/2" or 2" diameter , one each in top & bottom of fridge ,as suggested by lincoln , etc. ? if you don't ,you will probably get sweating , & dampen the electrode , especially in a humid climate .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:I mention this because ,before I bought the commercial dry rod oven, i tried an old fridge , without holes ,and it sweat something terrible. i then bored holes in it , but a light bulb did not keep the rod warm, not even 100 degrees. Then i bought the oven , all was great ................until I got the wallet busting electric bill . -Electricity is very expensive in the Napa valley ( 11 cents /kilowatt to 43 cents/kilowatt - the more you use, the higher it gets .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:great for home use, but a certified company could never get away with using that oven for basic electrodesTalent is a flame. Genius is a fire.- Bern Williams |
