hard faceing

had a few questions wanted to hardface tub grinder teeth the weld has a tungston carbide grit or chip in it. how do i do this i guss im lookin for a mig gun with a hopper on it to drop the grit in the weld. would aprechate any feedback
Reply:I am not sure if you really have carbide bits but usually they are introduced using stick that has the carbide in the center of the rod.  The other way would be with a cored wire.   As soon as you apply hardsurfacing you are in the area of "black art".  You would be well advised to choose a product and closely follow the instructions.I remember a welder telling me how they welded grouser bars on worn track of a crawler tractor.   When they were finished they fired up the machine and drove it out of the shop and the bars snapped off the track one by one.
Reply:thankyou for the reply. i've found rods with the tungston carbide in the core but the grit is a little to fine also talked to several manufactures of the teeth the wouldnt give up much info on how the aply the weld there is acually rather large slivers of tungston carbide inbedded in the teeth
Reply:Lotech is ceratinly correct. If you don't have the right combination the filler will just wear away and leave the carbide exposed to break off or fall out. Real common occurrance with cheap carbide trenching teeth and or do-it-yourself buildups around carbide cutters. The filler has to match the application.

Im Intarested In Lerning To Hard Face On Things Like Backho Buckets And Dozer Blades Ect. Im Trying Tofind Any Type Of Instructional Aids Such As Videos Books Ect. But I Have No Idea Were To Look Or If They Even Exist. Can Anyone Help.
