Reply:anyone???
Reply:The defects are the same in general no matter what welding process was used.Defects are undercutting, Incomplete fusion, porosity, poor gas coverage and resulting contamination, poor operator technique, gas pressure, the usual list. For Mig in general, check wire speed ,voltage, amperage and make sure the weldment is properly prepared and cleaned.Check that the gun angle is correct, and the push or pull technique for that wire etc.,.Correct filler wire for base metal. Thickness of the weldment. And for aluminum the total size of the weldment is revelent. As for PHOTOS of defects:You have one of the most powerful tools in the world to get information.-Your computer.Go to Google and type in EXACTLY what you want. For instance if you type in MIG aluminum weld. Then click on IMAGES not web results IMAGES top of toolbar .you will have lots of choices like:Weld under cut on root pass The undercut allowed slag to get down into the weld interface. All of these things are on the internet. But you have to type into your search engine exactly what you want and then click on IMAGES not web results.10 years ago you would have had to go to the library and hope they even had a welding book. Now it is very easy.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 02-11-2011 at 11:03 AM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
