What Brand aluminum welding wire do you think is the best ?And what makes it the best ?I recently tried Crown and I had trouble with feeding through my push pull gun.Has anyone had a feeding issue caused by poor wire ?
Reply:Hey alum.man,First, asking what anyone finds the "best" is all a matter of personal opinion by each who do alum.. Most tend to stay with the first brand they try if it works well & not bother trying other brands.Second, you need to really define the exact nature of your issues. Simply stating "feeding" is not enough data to render some solutions.1) What are the particular problems with feeding thru your push-pull gun?2) What brand/model unit are you using?3) What type of wire(4043/5356) & diameter(.030/.035) are you using?4) Do you have the operator/owners manual for the equip.?5) How have you determined wire roller tension? Excessive tension can deform alum. wire that may cause a drag thru the liner & tip.6) What size tip are you using? Personally, I use a .005 larger orifice tip(.035 wire=.040 tip)7) What is the power level of the unit's output amperage?8) What is you level of welding experiences, ie., process/materials?Once you fill in the blanks, the members will have an idea where to initiate an investigation into the issues & suggestions for resolution. Sound reasonable? We cannot read the minds of a posters' query unless we know the base line of information.Next, I can say that a couple years ago when my alum. work increased tremendously, I went on E-Bay & looked for alum. wire in large spools, generally 10-15#, so I could buy bulk to save considerable $$$. Within 2 weeks, I found & bought (7) large spools of .035 alum wire, (6) were 5356 & (1) was 4043. Including shipping, I did not spend more than $25/spool as the demand back then was nil. So, I simply stocked up. Can't get those bargains like that anymore. I also have (2) spoolguns that I use & made a rewinder to refill the empty 4" spools the s/g's use....very cost-effective. I use Harris, Indalco, Gulf Wire, & Natweld brands & have not experienced any issues with any of them. The more information you post, the better we can provide recommendations.
