Aluminum sign holder

I was asked to build a frame for the new sign.  The customer had a drawing and the aluminum.  He "helped" me.  Actually we had a good time.  Sign is 16' long 24" tall.  It was fun getting it straight and square on the not so smooth floor in my shop.    All aluminum was cleaned with acetone and nothing else.  It was new stuff.  Machine Arcmaster 185 workin its balls off!  Water cooled WP20 torch.  I dulled all my 3/32 red and gold tungsten. I switched to 1/8 gold or orange electrodes to finish the job.  This just happened to be when he wanted to add the 1" square stock to the back.  The bottom channel is 1/4" thick 4" channel.  Machine was turned all the way up, no matter how I adjusted it, It was just a little weak in the knees and it took a while to get a puddle.  Once it was going, it was smooth sailing dipping pretty quick.  3/32 4043 filler also wiped with acetone soaked rag. Reply:You made a nice job of it and I don't envy you welding on the floor. As the years go by I like to do as much as possible at table height.I remember ice creams at $0.05 and milk at 4c a pint. Gas at 25c per gallon. (about 21c US per gallon) That was just before the first energy crisis in the 70s and then it went to 25c per litre just over .25 of a US gallon. Today it hit $2.129 per litre or in US terms, $US6 per US gallon. Reply:Looks good. Nice job. One question. Did you lean over while sitting on that chair to do the welds or were you sitting on the floor. If so working the foot pedal must have been fun. I recall working the foot pedal sometimes between my knees. Reply:Thank you all.  I neeled on the floor.  I put one knee on the foot pedal.  Most of the time I needed all she had, so I just put the torch in the right place and floored it.  Putting ALL my weight on the pedal didn't get me one more amp.  When I stopped the weld, I had to lift my self up off the pedal, so it wasn't exactly a nice slow downslope, but ........Customer was real happy.  That matters to me a lot.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Just kneeling on the pedal is not enough. Watch the drivers on the road who make the dicey overtaking manoeuvres, they mash the pedal to the floor and then LEAN FORWARD!
