Reply:thanks Chopper5 when I said "comments please" I meant my welding and fabrication skills not my ability to post pictures!, but if thats the only fault you can find I'm happy
Reply:Where did the inspiration for the two gates come from?
Reply:mr2turbo7, the first gate I just decided to follow the design through from the fence panels with the C scrolls, shadow rail and baskets but when i looked it i thought it looked a bit plain so I had a play with my ring roller and came up with the simple design on the top, worked ok I think? The second gate was inspired by some of the ironwork lacally, I live near a place called Port Sunlight, which is the home of Lever industries (lifeboy soap, washing powder, detergants etc.)the company was founded mid to late 1800's by lord Leverhulme who was famous for building his employees houses, he built the entire estate now known as Port Sunlight for his staff here at the local factory. the estate is now protected and recognised as an important historical sight. I took a walk round there and tried to use features on some of the ironwork there in that gate.

Reply:Looks very good.  You and he clients will be proud of those for years to come.
Reply:It all looks great, very pleasing to the eye. I do a lot of ornamental work and work through a bunch of interior decoraters and design people. When it looks good people will like it without knowing why. The reason is it has nice flow, blends well with all components within it self and is just pleasing to the eye. The work can be excellent, but if something is off, people will not like it. They may not know why they dont like it but they wont. Always step back and look at your design as it goes together to make sure it is still pleasing to the eye. Yours looks good. But, if it were me I would have added a lower picket to the gate on either side to cut those gaps down to match the rest of the gaps in the lower portion. I'm not being critical, as the work looks good, it's little things like that I hear about all the time and just thought I'd mention it. Great work,   Bob
Reply:Thanks everyone for your comments.Bob, I thought about adding 2 extra pickets at the bottom of the gate to close the gaps but if I did that I would also have had to add two extra arrow heads on top of them in order they match the rest but the arrow heads would not have been central in the gap and in my opinion might have looked even worse and so I opted to leave as is, the customer never even mentioned it.

Reply:Bob summed up pretty well what I felt, so I won't try to better that (lazy!) and I appreciate your points about the extra pickets. I was wondering what happened to Lifeboy soap about a week ago, We haven't seen it for years. Sunlight is being re-introduced here after being discontinued in January and public demand has prompted them to bring it back even though now it will be made in Australia with a slightly different scent and shape. It's always been an icon here. I can remember little wire baskets for a bar of it with a handle on so you could shake it in the dishwater for the washing up.
