Here are a few pics of the trailer my class built this last semester.  We finished it on the last day of school and sold it the same day!  Already have orders for two more next year. There is also a shot of a stove and some car ramps we made this year. Attached Images
Reply:COOL! I keep saying I'd like top have a go at building a trailer but just don't have a need for one at the mo, when I do I hope it turns out as nice as yours
Reply:Here are a few pictures of the shop I run in Northern Minnesota.  We are going to be moving quite a bit of the machinery around and adding at least 4-6 more welding booths for the students this summer.  The students will have to build the tables and test stands as some of the projects for the classroom. Reply:Ha, if I had that shop alllll to myself, I'd be one happy puppy. Tell the troops that was one nice trailer.
Reply:Your class room has more toys them most of the shops I have worked in.  Man the things they should be able to build..
Reply:You are lucky that they let you sell the projects. I assume it's to recover costs in materials. At out local votech they can't sell any of the project cars or bikes they build. Has to do with liability. ( Heck they couldn't even sell any of the old welders when they upgraded all the machines this year. They all went in the dumpster and got hauled off the same day, even though many in the classes would have loved to buy them to practice with.) Shame they've got some really nice stuff that kids have made senior year. All either gets torn apart and used as parts for the next build or crushed as scrap.

Reply:Thanks for the compliments.  We are reviving a program that was down to 4 students and is now back up to 75 kids signed up for next year.  We are adding new equipment and should have about 19 welding stations to work at next year.It is sure fun teaching kids when they are excited about learning.
Reply:Thats a very nice trailer. I have built many in the last few years. I have a suggestion for your rails. I attach mine in a very similar fashion but leave a 1/2 or 5/8 gap between the vertical riser and the horizontal angle. I also put tabs on the bottom and create a kind of slot to slide in wooden sides. Small holes drilled in the angle lets you fasten the wood to the trailer. I have not seen a manufacturer do this and have sold a number based on that design alone.I hope your class is profiting from this project. If you are not buying your trailer parts through utilitytrailerkit.com you probably aren't getting the best deal. Good luck and have fun.Bill

Reply:definitely a nice shop you have there. When i was in high school by the time i got there all that was left was auto shop.  it was axed my sophmore year, replaced with Bio Technology.  My buddy dropped out of high school and took his GED, knowing he wanted to be a mechanic, and thought there was nothing left there for him.  My high school at one point had woodshop, metalshop, auto and electrical shops.  Now, they have nothing.Nice to knoq thats not the way it is everywhere,  not everyone is meant to go to college and become a desk jockey...
Reply:Originally Posted by westlawn5554xDont u think there is no female welding student?
Reply:Actually it was painted as a joke for one of the girls in the class.  She kept complaining that there was never enough helmets to go around.  We painted this one for her, thinking that none of the boys would want to wear it.  Little did we know most of them were not at all afraid to grab it and use it.  It just became another tool in the shop that everybody used.  By the way she was one of the best welders we turned out that year!
Reply:AWESOME!!Like drivethruboy, my high school had nothing but Auto and wood shop and the only reason we had that was because they were vocational programs run by one of the local colleges. We were "technically" off campus when we attended those classes. I would have loved to have taken a welding/metal shop class in high school. Instead, I had to teach myself...and with my dad being a professional musician and college professor, he wasn't much help!!! My hat is off to you for continuing to show younger generations what it takes to keep this world turning.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:That is a great looking shop.  Your school is lucky to have such a facility and an instructor who is passionate about his trade.. I look back now (grad 1980)and realize we also had a great metal shop; We had heavy duty lathes, presses, grinders, bridgeport, arc and gas welding stations etc... and most importantly, Mr Stanach an experienced and enthusiastic teacher.
