Heres a coal burner I made. You can see the old one in the background which somebody had made and it cracked all around the seems due to poor fusion. I totally redesigned the front and inner guts of the thing. From what I hear from my customer, it works awesome. He especially liked the sliding infinately variable air intake. Attached Images
Reply:Looks great! Very nice work.
Reply:Johnny,Looks grrrrrrrrate! What thickness and type of material did you use? Are there any baffles in the stove? What did you weld this with?Waldo
Reply:The wall thickness is a wopping 3/8ths. I used a miller 350p with Trimark metalloy 76 - metal cored wire @ .045 . I should have got a closer pic of the welds for you guys. Anyhow, no baffles - cept it does have a flap that swings up and down to allow larger logs and access for grate replacement. Also, below the grate the sidewalls taper in to funnel ash into the tray.
Reply:Nice work. That 3/8" ought to radiate some heat.I'm curious to see how long that grate lasts, but it looks real simple to drop another in as needed. Again, good job. I like the ash pan and air control. Is the flue on the back, or not cut in yet?
Reply:I wondered about why the ash drawer was smaller than the box. Figured there had to be some system that kept the ashes from falling outside the box.
Reply:If you build another grate try using a high grade rebar. It out lasts any thing else I've tried.

Reply:Great job, now for the big question, Do you have plans or sketches we could have so as to build one for ourselves. See with the way things are going for my machine shop it looks like I better start heating the shop with wood and all snail mail I get, which is a lot. Thanks ahead of time,,,,Chuck
