need advice on gas cooker i have built.cooker is built from a steel hot water heater 27" high & 18" diameter.the burner is from a propane gas heater & burner is 17" long & mounted 9" from bottom of tank.the problem is as long as top is off the burner has a nice blue flame but when i put top on & turn gas up it shoots flame out a 2" hole right above burner on side of tank & will go out.do i need more air holes & if so where do they need to be.no air holes on bottom, only hole is the 2" on side of tank.  thanks for any advice.
Reply:You need both for a clean burn. Fresh air in below the burner hot expaned air well above the burner. The upper can be adjustable to control flow and heat containment.
Reply:Sounds like you need some draft holes in the bottom to feed it air and probably some holes in the top to exhaust combustion product. Look over any large gas B-B-Q and see how they are set up. Reply:what i did for my burner was cut out a two inch strip the entire length of the burner and i get a perfect flame everytime

Reply:yeah i made the strip i cut out 2 inches long and the length of the burner from the first flame on the burner to the last and it was cut out of the bottom of the tank ill get pics up soon as possible
