Reply:Nice looking set-up Dave..Clean and to the point!.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I was thinking about a Lincoln buzzbox, but might go with the hobart. Looks like a setup that will work well.
Reply:Now that you got that mig, how much is the ol buzzbox going to be used?Nice cart.Need close ups of the welds. DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David R: My plan was always to keep the buzzbox- It has a tremendous amount of power to do anything I could ever need. I got the Mig-Pak 140 to do the light stuff that the buzzbox (even on it's lowest setting) would vaporize. And for those wondering- I absolutely love both of them.Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.
Reply:Oh, and the weld closeups... I didn't take too many weld-pics while building it (and as you can see the ones I did take are not on my website with the others)... but I do have a couple. Keep in mind a couple of things: I learned to weld from reading books (never had a course) and this is my first time EVER using a wire-feed welder. Secondly, it was welded using flux-cored wire (no gas) so they're a bit messier. Looking forward to your constructive criticism.Anyway, the photos.... Reply:Thanks for the comments, guys. Any more comments on the quality of the welds?Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.
Reply:the welds look pretty good for being single-bead, straight line... whatever you want to call them. try weaving or zig-zagging a little... it will give a little more wire deposit, but it also puts in more heat, meaning more penetration. i heard from an old friend of mine to use a small putty knife to knock off slag and spatter... i RARELY use a hammer any more. the knife works much better at taking up them little berries.Later,Andy
