Howdy I am looking for some advice.....Trying to see what type of welder to buy.....Im wondering if a Hobart Handler 140 (110V) MIG welder would be able to weld some small plates together to make a hitch platform to bolt to the rear box of a tractor.....The plates are 1/4" thick.....and I dont mind spending some time on it.....Ive have the small MIG on order, Im just wondering if it will be able to do this jobber. I plan to get a larger stick welder in the future though....Thanks for the help!Matt
Reply:a 110 machine to do what you want?not enough amps for good penetration nope sorrynext question?...zap!
Reply:Save this project for later. It's not a learner project if you want some semblance of "hell for stout", which we genrally do on tractor implements. It's not recommended, but can be worked out with some experience and the right joint design. Flux core is what you'll want for these types of projects and a small machine.Last edited by Sandy; 02-25-2006 at 10:19 PM.
Reply:Truth be told, I wouldnt be the one using it.... but I see what you mean. What would you reccomend for a good learner project? Ive got a friend of mine who is a professional welder.....he says he will teach me.....I cannot wait! Thanks again

Reply:You will need 220VAC to get proper penatration of weld on 1/4" overlapped on 1/4". So that's 1/2"Build your Kingdom with welding. Pass the Kingdom on to the next generation. |
