Hey everybody, new to welding and the forum. Please excuse me if this isn't the right place for this, but i've got some questions. Long story short i'm going to be taking over the shop from the guy i work for now building aluminum gangways and custom boat things. He's taking all his equipment and i'm starting from scratch. I've been using a syncrowave 250 for the gangways and a thermal arc inverter for the anodized boat parts. I was thinking of getting a Dynasty 200 as a substitue for both. if anyone has comments thoughts suggestions, have at it. thanks
Reply:As long as you aren't doing anything really thick aluminum-wise, the Dynasty 200 should work great. However, if I were going to rely on a single unit for my income, I would get the Millermatic 350P. It would probably be best to have a backup in any case, because when an inverter welder goes south, you might be out of commission for a while.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:If you are doing large production pieces (like gangways), I would assume you'd want to use mig with a spoolgun for the aluminum work. For fine work, you'd need a tig.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:I've been using a millermatic 251 with a spoolgun and will be looking for one of my own. You can't stop that thing. I use the mig for everything below deck and the tacking, but most of the rails i tig weld. thats all on 6061 mill stock, but i do alot of anodized work too. all schedule 40 pipe and no more than 1/4 inch c channel. i was just wondering if the dynasty had the nut for it. Its a HUGE investment and i want to make sure i get it right.
Reply:fng,Bottom line NO.Dynasty 200 DX is a great welder and does a lot of things well, but it won't "take the place" of a Sync250.Doug,Isn't a MM350P also an inverter?Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
