from a mower frame, never had physical abuse or in an accident, i think undercut on the left side. Attached ImagesStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Hard to tell Vipe, but it looks like one of those notorious cold lap mig downhands Ya gotta hate when that happens
Reply:looks like the entire base metal under the weld has pulled out. It more than likely started out as a vibration crack then just got worse hard to tell from the pic though.
Reply:Looks like way to much weld, gives that cross piece a lot of leverage on the thin wall tube.
Reply:what color is the material in the crack? is it shiny? or does it look about the same as sand blasted steel? I would vote fatigue related so far. If it was tempered after the fact, I am sure this would not have happened. It looked heat related to start with. Improper technique. Looks like alot of racing mt bike welds I have seen cracked. Where on an upper end bike, same weld, same machine and weldor as on a cheepy ride, but they spent the time and tempered the whole frame brought to the same temp, and you wouldn't have a problem. Thats my idea. Is this alluminum? You notice the tear is only along the HAZ? If it were outside of the HAZ, like a frame failure on a vehicle, then it would be from abnormal stresses, and less likely from poor weld performance. Thats my thought. Brian Lee Sparkeee24
Reply:Cold Weld
Reply:Vipe. That would be a Tail" wheel boom weld of a Walker mower. Very cmoin problem. I know Walker had a bad series of production welds that were exposed by moderate abus, i.e. curb hoping too fast both up and down. Two remedies...create a new brace , makes weld tough but tend to bend the wheel caster . @ Don't let the boys go slammin off curbs! I run 3 diff Walkers from various years and have spent a lot of money on maint. These are EXPENSIVE mowers to operate, make sure you can cover the operating cost of these mowers. They ca litteraly eat your lunch. Can be very productive if not abused!
Reply:dont look like the weld failed as much as the base material did...zap!
Reply:Walker MOWER! Always have problems back there! It is causes from the dumping of the bin. Want to see worse weld damage go find a walker that has the hi lift option. The weight being 64" off the ground and dumping will snap that back end every time!
Reply:I was going to say that sure looks like a walker. Great mower if you can keep it together. Would love to have one for my own lawn only!!!!!!!!!!! My guys are to hard on equipment now. I bet with in one week they could snap a walker in half.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers |
