Adam was too busy to finish this one earlier in the week, so...I um, did. The customer wanted a receiver for his trailer. There's an added spacer at the front, also a middle cross-member, and the combo bar itself, so three pieces. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/P7120007.jpghttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/P7120006.jpghttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/P7120001.jpghttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/P7120002.jpghttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...r/P7120004.jpgReverse ordered photos'. Under the bed pan, the flat position welds had to be done blind. There was only a few inches for the gun & tip, almost zero visibility. Welding by ear, so to speak. City of L.A. Reply:Ahh, there's nothing like "point and squirt" welding!Looks like a nice modification there. It seems a lengthy receiver tube, is that so you could attach it in the third spot? Also a bit difficult to see but I figure it stops short of the axle and hence doesn't affect axle travel. Is the extra box section around the end of the receiver for strength or to stop it splitting or flaring? We have a six monthly or yearly vehicle Warrant of Fitness check six monthly after vehicle reaches 5 years old and they look at towbars and receivers and safety chains etc but I've never seen them pull the receiver pin out to check it. That 5/8" pin does all the towing. I've checked my pin and it's showing signs of a little wear and the holes in the hitch tube are wearing too. I'd wondered about adding a couple of collars on the receiver tube and maybe an insert in the inner tube. Has anyone bothered with anything like that, or do you just shell out for a new one? When will the receiver be used? Would it be legal onroad in the US, or only offroad, as it would be here, unless it's a tow truck? Double trailer makes reversing more interesting but I've seen it done successfully."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." The customer specified exactly what he wanted. He was offered advice which he declined to accept. Also a bit difficult to see but I figure it stops short of the axle and hence doesn't affect axle travel. Good eye, that was part of our advice, use a shorter combo bar. He wouldn't hear of it.Is the extra box section around the end of the receiver for strength or to stop it splitting or flaring?Exactly so!We have a six monthly or yearly vehicle Warrant of Fitness check six monthly after vehicle reaches 5 years old and they look at towbars and receivers and safety chains etc but I've never seen them pull the receiver pin out to check it. You could, I suppose, repair the fatigued receiver tube, but it may be easier at that point to replace the component entirely. When will the receiver be used? Get this, the customer wanted a place for a removable cooler rack.  Would it be legal onroad in the US, or only offroad, as it would be here, unless it's a tow truck? Double trailers is not his purpose, if it were, he would have to get a commercial driver's license with an endorsement for pulling "doubles".
Reply:Was that flux-core?  Looks good man, real good!  I'd personally be nervous about welding something like that, but your job looks great!  I guess I don't trust my skills enough to do a hitch hehehehe. well done!Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!

Reply:Tractapak, over here some call an ice chest (insulated box you put ice in to keep things cool - some run on 12 volt but are kinda pricey) a cooler. The big Gatorade dispensers are usually referred to as a water can. Hope that helps you out.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:Here's 3 insulated coolers.  Made for fish but they work for beer, too.  Sizes are: 54 quart, 94 quart and what some folks call a dead man's chest, 162 quart.  I apologize for the dust and dirt.  But a little soap and water will make them ready for tuna come autumn.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!

Reply:Yes, It strikes me as an odd place to put something like that. A real rough ride. Be careful opening the beers!
Reply:Originally Posted by SandyIt usually goes something like this; you buy a smaller off road rig because it's easier to get around in the woods, but it won't carry everything you want to take. So you get a small off road trailer to go along with your off road rig, but it still won't carry everything you want to take. So now you add a small rack off the back of your off road trailer that goes with your off road rig, and guess what? Yep, it still  won't carry everything you want to take.
