This is probably another stupid ? but I am gonna ask anyway. What is the reasoning for spool choices. Steel, plastic, fiber. I have always used plastic on my mm250 at home but I seen a deal on superarc l-56 on a steel spool. I guess I just need to know if there is any reason that I can't use it.

Reply:I have heard that the wire "basket" spools are trim ends from making big SAW wire. Fiber is pretty popular with welders who duct tape a big stack of them together to make a stool. I think is is whatever is cheapest for the mfg.
Reply:There is absolutely no reason that you can't use any style spool. Unless you are constantly switching spools, just use what comes in the box. The metal ones will handle rough treatment better than the plastic ones, but if it stays in your machine until finished you shouldn't have any concerns. Plastic will probably eventually take over, but unless you have another use for the empty ones, go with the brand of your choice.
Reply:Thanks for the help guys! That is exactly what I needed to know. |
