July 4 TH 7:35 A.M.Checking my E-M'S and suddenly I cant see anymore..(I really did'nt wanna bring this up but what the heck we all need a laugh) I'm just reading and then POP!My glasses split in two on the nosepiece..I have no spares so it's Mrs. zap to the rescue!!..The eye doctor will not be open to Monday..I will need to order a new set right away but will not get them in a week..So you gotta do what you gotta do..No glasses and I am totally useless..But to some I'M useless anyway..Thank goodness for stained glass supplys in house..This is the repair..Go ahead and   all you want...I have no choice in this matter anymore and thats what I have to live with for the time being..I get all the suck glasses.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Yeah but at least I can see again..We just soldered them together at first..Held 10 hrs.Did it again..Held 3 hrs..Went to the shop and made a aluminum tube as a "connector"The solder did not like the aluminum..So Mrs zap just gave it the foil and solder treatment..Holding up just fine now but...I should have made a connecting tube out of copper in the first place..The foil is copper and the solder loves that..But I'll stick with what I have now..At least they are not going anywhere and I can see again.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Well that is better than using duct tape to attatch them to your faceJKso, are you getting new ones tomorrow?
Reply:I cant believe we are still seeing this kind of irresponsible work from Zap after the other debacles already discussed. You obviously have no business checking emails or being near a computer with faulty eyewear. And that repair is clearly not up to snuff. that would never pass a visual examination by anyone but the blind. Have you had that ultrasonically tested? What about driving , surely you would not endanger other drivers with those shoddily repaired eyeglasses............"I knew an eyeglass repairmen and you sir are no eyeglass repairman"insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it

Reply:Yeah I bet wearing glasses sucks, I finally had my eyes checked last year. Went on vacation, kept missing my exits, couldn't read the big green interstates signs far away. I need glasses. I can see fine up close my far away is getting bad. I used to have, I think, 20/28 (or 28/20) I could see better then average anyway. Been a year and still haven't ordered my glasses. Oh well.Last edited by tnjind; 07-06-2008 at 08:28 PM.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Looks like that will work but couldn't you have tigged it, I thought just about everything could be tigged with the right filler.
Reply:A little coathanger wire, brazing rod, and black tape ....   good as new.  Yes, I could've done a better finish on that big glob of bronze, but if you've ever seen what a oxy-acetylene torch can do to small glass lenses .....   I just called it good, and wore these for a couple-three more months, before going in for new ones. Reply:I can definitely relate Zap.  I never had to wear 'em till I was 21, but have had a pair on ever since, and with my current model going on 3-4 yrs now, I could have a structural problem any time.I used to go to an optometrist who actually did weld broken frames. He had a really small electric machine that was probably a jewelers outfit, and he zapped ( no pun intended) a pair or two back together for me. This was many years ago, before I had much interest in welding... I wish I would have paid more attention at the time. It was very quick, like a spot weld.
Reply:Come on Zap, you can TIG that up nice...Me!

Reply:Well, I'm sure he'd like to TIG them together, except he would need the glasses to be able to see.A little work with some needle files or some small rotary burrs (Dremel type) and the repair would be all spiffed up.Git-R-done.
Reply:Well once you get your new glasses, you can clean up the old pair and tig them and show us the new repair, then you'll have 2 pair, I'd use the repaired pair for work and the new for driving and being with the better half aka the Mrs Zap. But that was good for a fast temp fix to keep you going. I never wore glasses until I was 40 and the hyeadaches kept getting worse and worse, I see good up close, but anything distant was troublesome, now I have 3 pair of glasses several scratched to h3ll but they do in a pinch and I use them when doing something that can damage the dress pair, LOL, dont want the Mrs Rodeo to be seen with me and the bad ones.Originally Posted by zapsterNot without my glasses on.....zap!

Reply:An inventive and effective repair in the circumstances. Don't these things always happen at the wrong time. But as you had the lenses out, couldn't you have worn them as a pair of monocles and then tigged the frame up? I have a vision of Colonel Klink but with two monocles and brandishing a tig torch!"One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:ROTFLMAO!!!! I feel your pain man. Up until this pair I am wearing now I always had to pay considerable extra for my prescription (not too bad on my left eye but about 80 a lens on the right) and a two week wait. NO extra charge on the last pair and ready in an hour. I used to go through frames like you wouldn't believe until I went to titanium (the last pair suffered a weld failure, lol). The pair I am wearing now is the most expensive I have ever purchased but they are coming up on three years and haven't even had to be straightened. This is the first pair of plastic lenses I have gotten more than a year out of due to scratches (the lenses were what made them so expensive and they are super thin, progressive bifocals to boot). These are maybe a mm wider than the frames and the predecessors were all the genuine coke bottle bottom article. As far as glasses go I am pretty happy with them. I think I got them at Lenscrafters (3 months after Katrina they were the only place open and I was over a barrel). I agree they all suck, but some don't suck as bad as others. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.

Reply:Zap if you have your prescription you can get great glasses from http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php really cheap. It takes a couple of weeks for you to get them but is worth the wait and you can afford to keep a few spare sets on hand. I am always breaking or scratching mine so I ordered four pairs and have been happy with all of them and didn't spend $400 each at the local optical shop!
