I've been searching and can't seem to find an answer for this so if it's been asked before I'm sorry to dupe.I want to fill my small bottle using gas from my  larger bottle. It's $40 to fill a 20cf bottle or $80 to fill a 200cf bottle. I need both bottles and running both machines off the large bottle is not a solution that works for me.Is this even possible? I was hoping that I could just hook the 2 bottles together and open both valves to equalize the pressure???Here's a pic to go with my first post here, it's a motorcycle seat that I made using 1/4" bar and 21 gauge sheet.

Reply:If you're talking about CO2, it is possible to transfer liquid from a full cylinder to an empty. People do it all the time with paintball cylinders. It helps if your larger tank has a liquid eductor in it, otherwise you'll need to invert (hang upside down) the larger cylinder. Check you're LWS or a paintball supply store, they may have a setup to do just that. (I've got a transfer system that I bought at a paintball outfit for about $40 or so).
Reply:Originally Posted by DSWYes it's possible with a few issues that need to be adressed. One: Unless you know 100% what you are doing NEVER TRY THIS WITH O2!! If you get even the least bit of oil, dirt or other contaminant in the valve or transfil whip it will blow up on you. Like as in killed dead. This is not an area to be cheap on. I doubt you want to do O2 but it's for others that might think this is a good idea. It's not.Note it will cost you a fair amount to build a transfer whip to do inert gas. All parts must be rated to at least 3000 psi...........

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, the local gas supply shops just said, "no you cant do that" and I didnt believe them. I think the best way to save some money unfortunately will require me to buy a 100cf tank and just deal with hauling it around when I need to and also paying the higher cost for the fill when I need to. Is the 20cf bottle worth selling cuz I'm probably not going to use it if I buy a 100? I don't know what they charge to fill the 100's but they charged me $80 for the 200 and said it would be $40 for the 20cf bottle.

Reply:My numbers off the top of my head look pretty close. I'm not quite sure why the use 2 gauges on an interconected line thats only 2-3' appart though. The way they have that designed theres no way you can have a different reading on each gauge..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Your are right about the flow orifice. It limits flow reducing temp drop of the line during transfer. I have an early version without this, and the hose really gets cold.

Reply:One thought I just had as a cheaper vent solution, from the first response, maybe if there was a way to T into the line easily/cheaper, you could somehow adapt into one of these and vent it via regulator which would bring the pressure down safe enough to blow out into the open. Maybe a valve on the low pressure end to open/close. This all assuming correct fittings and gasses etc. ??- RyanLincoln Weld-Pak 140HDHypertherm Powermax 30HF 4x6 bandsawHF 21gal compressorCraftsman Commercial drill press4.5" Craftsman Professional angle grinder4.5" HF angle grinderOld benchtop table saw with a cutoff wheel and sawzall
Reply:I doubt a reg would make it any less expensive, especially if you have to figure in the cost of the reg. Also it will get very unwieldy quickly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Yeah... it probably would. Just came to mind as a possible cheap way of safely reducing the pressure  to vent it. I can see it now, fittings and hoses every which way between two cylinders...- RyanLincoln Weld-Pak 140HDHypertherm Powermax 30HF 4x6 bandsawHF 21gal compressorCraftsman Commercial drill press4.5" Craftsman Professional angle grinder4.5" HF angle grinderOld benchtop table saw with a cutoff wheel and sawzall
